Program Description   Dietitians have a variety of job opportunities. Join us as we talk with Jennifer Dalton, a registered dietitian, who is a Medical Nutrition Therapist for the 88 Medical Group at Wright Patterson Air Force Base and a Community Wellness Dietitian for Kettering Medical Center. She will discuss the education necessary to enter her field as well as her career experiences. Students from participating middle schools and high schools will have the opportunity to ask questions and discuss career opportunities for future dietetics professionals with this registered dietitian.
Program Format   1. Connections for audio and video checks will begin at 12:45 EST. The session will commence at 1:00.
2. The SOITA facilitator will introduce the guest and the participating schools.
3. The guest will give a brief background of training, education, job possibilities, and job growth.
4. Each interactive site will be called upon to ask questions of the guest.
5. The guest will share video, PowerPoint, or artifacts that help clarify the specific career.

- be introduced to a particular career and its job potential.
- gain a better understanding of the training and education necessary for each particular career.
- have opportunities to ask questions and interact with the guest.
- engage in a discussion with the career specialist.

Think you have what it takes to make it in sales? Talk with Todd Poeppelmeier, Territory Manager for the Garland Company, INC. and learn about different careers in sales and essential skills to be successful in the field. The Garland Company is a high performance roofing and flooring manufacturer headquartered in Cleveland, Ohio. Currently Todd works as roofing consultant and territory manager in the Dayton area but has a diverse sales background holding different positions in other companies. Participants from the various schools will have the opportunity to ask questions about careers in sales and what it takes to be successful.

Targeted Audience: students in grades 7 – 12

Join Melanie Moran as she discusses Careers in Online Media and other emerging online media: Web development, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, iTunes. Online Media Specialists take classes to become proficient in information resources, web page development, electronic information technology, information systems, systems development and design and database management. These classes are required to work in multimedia, website design, digital imaging, Internet marketing, media production, videoconferencing, video production and media training, small business, and large corporations.

Online Media specialists work in radio, television, film, helping the handicapped with digital media, generating interactive media for the Internet, public libraries, presentations, seminars and conferences, schools and universities, university libraries, media companies, and research facilities.

Time: 9:00 and 10:00 AM (CENTRAL time zone)
Format: 45-minutes formatted into 30-minute presentation, and then 15-20 minute Q & A

Grades 7-12: Careers in Meteorology


Presenter: Betsy Kling, WKYC Channel 3 News Meteorologist

Thousands of career choices are available in our fast-changing society. Why would you choose atmospheric science or applied meteorology? Do you have a deep curiosity about the world around you? As a meteorologist, you can satisfy that curiosity by investigating the natural forces that shape our weather and climate. You can use your knowledge to warn others when danger is approaching in the form of tornadoes and hurricanes. You can learn about the latest tools of modern technology-computers, radar, satellites-to discover how natural processes and human activities affect our atmosphere. Join us as Meteorologist Betsy Kling discusses the education, background experiences and future employment opportunities in the high tech science of METEOROLOGY. Ms. Kling is a member of the American Meteorological Society and the National Weather Association, and has earned the prestigious Seal of Approval from both professional organizations.
