Engage with the Business Services Manager from the City of Kettering Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts Department as he shares the education and training necessary to enter the field of Parks & Recreation, as well as the potential for job growth and benefits. Join with personal trainers from Urban Active, formerly Gold's Gym, as they discuss the training required to enter the field of personal fitness training. They will also discuss their real-life experiences with clients from basic training to preparing for competitions. The Career Conversations videoconference series helps students meet with professionals with experience in the work force. Professionals get the chance to share their insights, and students gain information which is vital to making informed career - related decisions. Presenters discuss career opportunities in their specific professional areas and acquaint students with the requirements for the job, the daily routine of the job, and career progression within the industry.

Professionals involved in Career Conversations may be asked a variety of questions about their work. The topics of conversation may include: type of education needed for the career, description of a typical work day, job search strategies, and what they consider the best and worst aspects of the profession. Students may be gathering information for researching professional interests and gathering information on career paths. Career Conversations offers mutual benefits. Professionals gain the satisfaction of knowing that they aided a future professional, and students gain career information.

Other sessions may include conducting a successful job search, moving up the career ladder, creating attention-getting cover letters, writing resumes, shining in job interviews, dressing for success, negotiating salaries, and more.

Grades 6-12: Careers in the NFL


The Pro Football Hall of Fame will be hosting a videoconference titled Careers in the NFL at 10:00 a.m. and again at 1:00PM on Wednesday January 30, 2008. The 50-minute highly interactive presentation is designed for 6th-12th grade students to examine the wide variety of careers in the National Football League other than professional athletes and stress the importance of education. A 15-minute careers video which examines many of the career opportunities with the Pittsburgh Steelers organization is shown during this session. The sessions are supplemented by a lesson aligned with national standards of education.

Each session will be a point-to-point conference with a fee of $50 for each participating site. Interested schools will be selected on a first come basis. Connections can be made through IP only (unless scheduled through a bridging source). If your school is interested in being part of one of the two sessions offered, please email the Hall of Fame’s Education Department at EducationalPrograms@ProFootballHOF.com. A Hall of Fame educational staff member will follow-up to confirm the session details and make final arrangements. Selected sites are required to send a purchase order made out to the Pro Football Hall of Fame upon conference confirmation.

Program Description

Watch live surgery via videoconferencing! Students will be given a powerful learning experience by interacting with the surgeons and medical personnel in the operating room. Students will receive an information guide on total knee replacement surgery and the careers associated with the operating room. Teachers receive an information packet and materials for pre- and post-experience activities for the classroom. The kit includes enough materials for 30 students. Adult and community groups welcome.
Program Format

- brief introduction by COSI team- video of patient preparation- view LIVE surgery and ask questions in a round-robin format of operating room team

The participants will:- view LIVE total knee replacement surgery- explore careers associated with the operating room- identify knee anatomy and potential effects of arthritis- interact with operating room staff through learner-led questions
