Grades 7-12: Exploring Your Career Potential

Dave Leedy spent 30 plus years as a high school teacher. During this period he collected anecdotes from students and staff as to how people become successful. He truly believes that you are not born to be successful you make your success by how you live everyday and your positive thoughts. Today, as a professional motivational public speaker, he travels around the nation. Dave delivers his message dressed as a “super hero” – that’s right, a 60+ year-old man in tights and a cape. He wants to convey that you too can be a super hero if you treat yourself and others with respect and dignity. Students can reach their highest potential and success in a career but not without giving something to others. We all must stand up for ourselves and be a super hero in our actions toward others. It doesn’t matter what our career choices are, it matters how we get there and who we helped along the way – everybody needs somebody. Join Dave as he shares his thoughts and shows students how what they do today definitely affects their career potential.

Join Josh Keckley as he presents a videoconference about becoming a Web Designer (may also be known as Web Programmer, Web Developer, Internet developer, and WebMaster). Whatever the title, Web designers are responsible for day-to-day web site creation and design. Web designers are a combination of graphic designers or artists, and technical computer programmers. They work with all of the elements of a web site, text, images, graphics, and more, to come up with functional, interesting, and user-friendly web site designs.

The education and training requirements to be a web designer are not set in stone and may vary significantly depending on the size and type of organization that they work for, and the sophistication of that organization's web "presence". In some cases, associate's degrees, certificate programs, or even just relevant experience may be enough to get a job.

Exploring Careers in Real Estate Sales
Real estate sales have been depressed during these tough economic times. Existing homes on the market are plentiful but buyers are hesitant. Finding the right home for the right buyer is the desire of a real estate professional. Jason White, real estate advisor for residential and light commercial properties in southwest Ohio, prides himself with finding the correct fit. He states that the fit comes with more than the price. You have to find the property that "feels" like a place where you would like to live and/or raise a family. Whether he represents the buyer or the seller you have to get to know the personalities and wants and desires and match those with available properties or potential buyers. Jason realizes that buying or selling a home is probably the single largest transaction that the client has ever made and therefore must create confidence that all aspects are being handled professionally to the full extent of the law. Jason will share with students the types of classes he has taken, what students can do now to be prepared, and his thoughts about home sales in the future.
