Career as a Newspaper Publisher with Gary Cunningham in the Career Conversations series

Jolted by sharp circulation losses, newspapers in America are trying to turn the situation around. Newspapers have convened focus groups, launched front page changes, and added larger, more stylish key boxes. Editors are calling for shorter stories, more art and graphics, and a livelier page-one mix. What does it all mean for a newspaper publisher?

Newspapers appear to be on a downward slope (in terms of revenue and readers), and newspaper publishers are working hard to keep newspapers from sliding into oblivion. Media in general is in a state of upheaval. The pace of change is accelerating.

So you want to be a newspaper publisher? Newspapers are an important factor in informing the public. However, current and future readers are opting to go elsewhere for information and even for local advertising. Newspapers can either follow their lead, or they can bid them good-bye.

Join the Virtual School for this interactive videoconference session as we explore “Career as a Newspaper Publisher” with Gary Cunningham in the Career Conversations series.

Careers in the Performing Arts - The New Mel Brooks Musical Young Frankenstein

“Careers in the Performing Arts”

The New Mel Brooks Musical Young Frankenstein

Distance Learning Program

Tuesday, October 20, 2009

1:00 – 2:00 PM

A wickedly inspired re-imagining of the Frankenstein legend based on Mel Brooks' classic comedy masterpiece, the story follows bright young Dr. Frankenstein (that's Fronkensteen) as he attempts to complete his grandfather's masterwork and bring a corpse to life. Together with his oddly shaped and endearing helper Igor (that's Eye-gor), his curvaceous lab assistant Inga, and in spite of his incredibly self-involved madcap fiancé Elizabeth, Frankenstein succeeds in creating a monster -- but not without scary and quite often hilarious complications.

Panel:

Stage management team member and members of the technical production

staff. The panel members will discuss their respective career backgrounds and responsibilities with the touring production of Young Frankenstein.
