FREE to NORT2H Grades 7-12: Careers in Construction: Heavy Equipment Operator

Fundamental to construction is preparation of the job site using heavy equipment - backhoes, dozers, excavators, graders, loaders, dump trucks – and use of paving equipment, boom trucks, cranes, forklifts, and other heavy equipment as a project is under construction. Highly skilled construction equipment operators use this heavy and expensive equipment to move construction materials, earth, and other heavy materials at construction sites. They clear and grade land to prepare it for construction of roads, buildings, and bridges. They dig trenches to lay or repair sewer and other utilities; and they hoist heavy construction materials as buildings are being built.

Join members of the Associated Builders and Contractors to learn how you can prepare for a career as a heavy equipment operator, what you might expect to experience on the job site, and what you’ll need to know when operating heavy equipment.
