Program Description

Watch live surgery via videoconferencing! Students will be given a powerful learning experience by interacting with the surgeons and medical personnel in the operating room. Students will receive an information guide on total knee replacement surgery and the careers associated with the operating room. Teachers receive an information packet and materials for pre- and post-experience activities for the classroom. The kit includes enough materials for 30 students. Adult and community groups welcome.
Program Format

- brief introduction by COSI team- video of patient preparation- view LIVE surgery and ask questions in a round-robin format of operating room team

The participants will:- view LIVE total knee replacement surgery- explore careers associated with the operating room- identify knee anatomy and potential effects of arthritis- interact with operating room staff through learner-led questions

This program is typically offered the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of each month. Please see the COSI Columbus web site ( http://www.cosi.org/educators/education-programs/electronic-education/ ) for further information and to make your reservation. This is a one-and-a-half-hour experience and will be offered at 8:45AM ET, 11:00AM ET, and 1:15PM ET. The second and third surgery start times are dependent on the timing of the previous surgery. These programs may not start exactly at 11:00AM ET and 1:15PM ET.
