Grades 7-12: Hospital Safety and Security

2010-11

WVIZ/PBSideastream®

Careers in Health Care Series

Program:

“Hospital Safety and Security”

Security is a major concern for any public institution, but hospitals and other medical centers present planners with a unique challenge. Beyond the ethical responsibility to keep patients and staff safe, the abundance of expensive medical equipment and potentially harmful drugs also puts medical facilities at a heightened risk of theft. Reports into hospital security have raised concerns that criminals regard hospitals as "supermarkets without tills".

Join us for a discussion with the chief security officer of Southwest General Hospital and a safety and security specialist as they discuss their job responsibilities, educational background, training and skills needed as they work towards creating a safe and secure hospital environment.

Presenters:

Tristan Harker Chief – Protection Services and Environment of Care, Southwest General Hospital

Faye Gemelas Safety and Security Specialist, Southwest General Hospital
