Program Description
This is a career education program for grades 5 through 12. The general goal of the program is to help students receive a better understanding of how "all that math" they do in school can be used later in a variety of careers. NSC assembles a panel of at least four professionals from a variety of work fields. Each professional explains how they use mathematics at work. During the second portion of the program, students have the opportunity to ask specific questions of the panel members regarding their work with mathematics. Teachers are encouraged to have each student prepare at least one mathematics career question before the program broadcast date.Panel members vary but the scope of areas represented can include accounting/business, chemistry, education, information systems administration, nuclear engineering, mechanical engineering, and statistics.
